Issue with Exchange server and several domains.

Hi,

We have 3 domains that we send and receive emails from:

@company1.co.za
@company2.co.za
@mweb.co.za

Now company 1 and two are easy to work with as we own both domains but the mweb.co.za addresses cause me several hassles.

Can't set mweb.co.za up as an authoritative domain (if I don't the email address does not receive emails and if I do any emails sent out from these bounce back with several errors).

Any suggestions on how I can set this up in a way that will work?

Does the mweb addresses need to be in exchange? If not can you not set them up as pop3 accounts as well as the exchange accounts. As far as I am aware you can's setup a domain that you do not own or have control of in exchange ?

There are several problems with that.

Backups become a hassle.
Cant OWA into the mailbox.
No Outlook Anywhere and various other issues.

I had it set up for months with no hassles on that account, just started giving issues recently (other domains rejecting the mail, mostly due to DNS issues).

Are you guys on a mwb adsl account. Is the problem only with sending? I saw the other day that mweb are "redirecting" any mail sent using port 25. One suggestion was to change the smtp port for outgoing mail to 587 with authentication using one of your mweb email addresses? Just a thought?

P.S. does the mweb email just download into the users exchange mailbox or do you have seperate mailboxes and accounts for each domain.

Whats happening is that the server receiving your mail from @mweb.co.za is doing a reverse DNS lookup on your mail servers IP, and the IP does not correlate to a registered MX record for the domain Mweb.co.za, and rejects it. (any well configured mail system will do this)

It see's it as spoofing (and rightly so), you can try sending @mweb.co.za to a Mweb smart host for relaying, they will probably need to allow your IP access to relay.

How is your @mweb.co.za getting to your exchange server?
Is mweb re-directing your aliases to your servers IP?

Post some of the errors, as we have too little info and just making assumptions.
Also, explain how your routing is configured, who is your ISP etc...

I currently route all my SMTP through a smart host (not mweb's though, guys we got the diginet from).
Just download via pop into the users mailboxes.

Going to see if I can get mweb to set me up with an mweb smarthost.

This seems to be working.

Using their relay and set it up to use dns lookup settings from transport server

Thanks for the advice, just waiting for some more mails to flow before I can guarantee this is working.
