I'm currently using the supplied Afrihost DLink router then managing WiFi via a TP-link deco mesh system without an issue. However I can't get the TP-link system to connect to Afrihost directly without the DLink. My account doesn't have a PPOE password on client zone and may to connect directly via Dynamic IP. I have tried setting the TP-link to router mode with DLink MAC address with no success.

Any ideas on how to use your own router here?

We use DHCP for all providers except for Openserve.

If you have the TP-Link set to DHCP then you will get an IP from our DHCP server. This will trigger activation again because the MAC address changed.

If you are using custom DNS servers it might be the reason why you are not getting the activation page.

Cloning the d-link mac address however should have sorted the issue as that mac address is already mapped to your service.

Do you get an IP address on the TP-link ?

No Internet IP address assigned, Internet connection set to dynamic IP and it still fails to connect no matter if I assign the MAC or not. Reset the router and still no no bueno
I'm on MetroFibre Complexes BTW

That is very odd because none of the FNOs lock routers to mac addresses anymore. Vumatel used to do that but not anymore.

Do you get an IP if you connect your pc directly to the ONT?

Yes, the activation page for the fibre account appears with a direct ONT connection. Could it be the account is locked to one active device and this activation page/process isn't playing with the TP-link?

Which deco? Some of them are routers only and need to be connected to a modem.

Deco E4, none of them have fibre modem (ONT) integration AFIK - they can either be connected directly to the ONT in router mode or via the ISP supplied router in AP mode. It seems AH may be locking the account to the device connecting to the ONT

It's odd that you are not getting a DHCP lease on the TP Link.

The account can always just be mapped to 1 mac address at a time however it's not locked and every new device that is plugged into the ONT will get a new lease and then the Activation page will get pushed and once activated the new device is mapped and the old device removed.

This is likely a configuration issue either on the TP Link or maybe on MFN network. If you can send me a pm with your mac address of the TP link and the clientzone email address so I can ask Noc to search for the mac address in the DHCP leases log to see if we even saw that mac address asking for a lease.

I have had similar issues. It works fine for a while then fails which makes me think the dLink supplied router is the only device they will allow. I may try again, but this time using a different device to distribute the wired network. I do not have a switch, but set up the dLink as a switch be switching DHCP and wifi on the dLink OFF. Maybe Afrihost have the dLink router as the preferred device and as soon as i put it into the network, it is seen by Afrihost and they switch back to that as the distribution device overwriting the Deco (an M4 in my case).

Afrihost have a pop up page where your verify your account via OTP when you change your router/MAC. In my experience my deco router was blocking the page from appearing and it took a bit of fiddling before it came through

Hi,

Please make sure the TP Deco connected to the ONT is in the correct mode.

Once connected please visit https://login.afrihost.com/activate.php while connected to the deco to activate the line again. This will map the Deco mac address to your fibre line and allow it internet access.

Did any of you come right? I am having the same issue. Openserve fibre with Afrihost. The Afrihost router gets an IP and the Internet works. The Deco doesn't get an IP and not internet.

the main unit of the Deco must be plugged into either the ONT or the Fibre router,

If you plug into the Fibre router please remember to turn the wifi off on the old fibre router,

the secondary devices connect wirelessly

It is plugged into the ONT. When the Afrihost router is plugged into the ONT it gets an IP and the internet works. When the Deco is plugged into the ONT it doesn't get an IP and the internet doesn't work. I have tried the Deco in every mode and it still doesn't work.

Do you get to configure your PPPoE details on the Deco?

Isnt there a redirect page that needs to be presented by Afrihost? I had a few issues getting the page to appear before I could get the main deco to act as a router on AH then it worked once signed into the redirect with the OTP

For Openserve, you do not get redirected to the activation page.

So this means that trying to use Deco E4 / M4 mesh systems can turn them into paperweights, with Afrihost ?

Is this with both PPPoE (Openserve) and DHCP (all other providers), or just the one type, as both have been mentioned in this thread ?
