Hey guys, laptops aren't really my thing so I'm turning to you :)

My gf's laptop was working fine this morning, but now she's turning it on and it powers on, but nothing is happening. Literally nothing has been done to it since it was working this morning.

The fans whir, the thing seems to power on but the screen stays blank and the keyboard doesn't work.

Any ideas what this could be and/or how to fix it?

Any help would really be appreciated!

The fans whir

Well that can't be good. :p

Turn it on then leave it for a while and then hit the caps lock does the caps lock light come on? If it does then chances are the screen could be bust, might ba as simple to fix as reseating the screen ribon cable to the mobo. If it daint come on then it could be the mobo.

Fn + F2 could be the key to brighten the dimmed screen. In my Let's Note that's what it does.

You could also be trying to boot from some dud CD/DVD - so open the DVD drive and remove the disk inside.

As someone here said, it could be a screen issue, in which case it could be the backlight - something like the inverter has died. It may be possible to fix this yourself or you may need it serviced.

Try removing the power and the battery, then press and hold the Power On button for 30 seconds. Replace the battery and power cable, then try and boot.
