The EXACT same thing happened to my wife's series 3 watch.
The problem is that the battery swells and then it cracks the screen
Apple or Core's response have been despicable to say the least.
While this is a well know and documented defect and they have actually recalled some of the watches manufactured between certain times, their assessment obviously did not cover all faulty watches.
