Hi All.

Last year around June I got the 2GB night owl contract with Vodacom. Everything has been running fine, nice speeds, ect. I then moved and we got a ADSL line, so I transfered the sim with the data to my tablet, where it functioned perfectly. The modem has obviously been disused for the last two months, but stored carefully in its box. It is literally in mint condition.

My problem is that I am now having some issues with my line speed and I need to use the dongle for my online gaming. I plug in the modem, it doesnt register. I unplug and plug in again several times before it does. I cannot connect to the network, and when I do, it drops 5 minutes later. The next thing is that the dongle gets so hot I could burn my hand on it, and when it has been plugged in for about 15 minutes it disconnects itself. Obviously something is not right here. I have no issue with vodacom reception in my home, does any one have any advice?

here are the dongle details:

Vodacom Mobile Broadband
Model: K3772-Z
HSPA USB Stick

Thanks in advance

I have noticed that one these very cheap (crappy ZTE) K3772-Z modems that if the signal is poor, the modem has to increase it's power & antenna output making the modem extremely hot to the touch. (Similar to phones, poor/low signal, phone needs to increase antenna power, phone gets hot, RF radition?)

But in areas where signal is good, the modem does not get as hot.

How many bars of signal were you getting before you moved?

How many bars of signal are you getting now that you have moved?

Why don't you take it to a Vodacom shop in your area & get them to test it for you?

The nearest competent (sometimes) Voda store is 40KM away, so I have to wait til we get to that side of the world.

In both homes I've had between 4 and 5 bars when it has worked here.

Hi,
(my 2 cents) have you uninstalled the software? try and reinstall? if the usb modem disconnect while installing that you have a problem. If possible test modem in different areas to. usb modems do get hot, but not so that it should burn ones hand.

all done, the modem istalls without an issue, but it still gets way too hot. I'll have to take it in on the weekend sometime.

Thanks all for your help.
