Issues with home network - diagram included

Good to hear ! thanx for the heads up man. I wanted to ask could you give me a model number for that router ? I phoned and emailed Evotel a week ago and no reply, im pretty confused here, they said we can use our current landline phones and connect them up without buying new ones, im confused how this works ? does the router have a RJ-11 port ? Or do they convert it from RJ-45 to RJ-11 ? Please excuse me if i sound stupid.

Sorry for the delayed response. The make and model is- Make: BDCOM, Type: HGU, Model: 1704HG-EVW. My post on page 1 of this thread has a picture attached. The unit has 2 RJ-11 ports for telephones. I was supplied with a BELL Phones wired telephone, Model: Rainbow 58200, which is just a normal analog phone so your current landline phone will work. This is an extra service that Evotel will have to enable on your account.

On a side note, the disconnects I mentioned had nothing to do with Evotel and the supplied hardware, it was a faulty piece of equipment after the router that gave me problems. After looking through the interface again (properly), the port forwarding is also good and not a PITA as i previously mentioned. So it's just the lack of DDNS that goes on the cons list for this hardware but I'll manage without it.

Looks good ! I will consider buying one when im done studying and working : D

I contacted Matrix Warehouse and their supplier response was that they recommended not to buy these routers. Apparently the wireless functions have issues. They do however say that the wired unit does not have problems.

Here's a wired EPON unit - http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/cat-17_TL-EP110.html

I contacted Matrix about a price on that unit. I'll update when I hear from them.

Sure about that router not supporting DDNS? The document I found on the Internet states DNS and DDNS supported.

ive seen faulty power supply cause modem/router devices to reset to defaults btw. either by adapter or by wall socket.

A VOIP adapter is required .

If i had to get another router in the future i would have to look at the phone options, so any fibre router without rj-11 ports can just use a voip adapter for bell phones ? Im wondering what the cost would be comparing the adapter and the actual voip phone itself, would it be worth getting an adapter ? I guess if they come cheap it would be.

Not a problem, thanx for the reply man, i found the pdf spec sheet for the router
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...14.pdf&usg=AFQjCNG78d5s7AK6-fNZzehMBQseBEWhjA

I enquired about the 2 ports and apparently you can use two seperate voip accounts on those 2 ports, im aware that it is an extra service.

Atleast it wasnt the router giving you problems but i guess they do atleast give you a 1 year warranty if anything does go wrong ? if you can go without DDNS until you get another router you should be fine. Otherwise your line has been good ? No drops, high ms etc ?

You right, spec sheet that i pasted in the reply above confirms that it has DDNS, Doctor, maybe check again to see if you can find it ?

Mmm interesting, if i ever need the router again to use as an AP ill give it a shot with the same adapter and a new one. Should monitor it, i could test voltage, could it possibly be an overvoltage causing it to reset to defaults ?

Do you mean the wireless on the router gives problems but the rj-45 ports work fine ? or do you get an actual router like this that has no wireless ? TP-Link unit looks good, would voip work with either a adapter for the bell phones or just a straight voip phone via rj-45 ? Will be great to hear what price those are going for.

Regarding the VOIP, I know nothing about it. I have not used it before so I'm not sure about the adapters. Sorry. I'm not 100% on the warranty but it must be a year or something like that. The line speed is good and consistent. There are no drops and my ping rate in Quake live is around 20ms or less.

I went with the 10Mbps package.

I actually logged a ticket on Evotel's site about the DDNS just after I got the service in June/July and their response was that it was confirmed not available and they would inquire about an updated firmware which did include the feature but I never heard from them again.

If you guys know of a site that hosts the firmware for this model, please let me know and I'll try it out.

I'll check the router settings again tonight but i've been through it a few times and could not see anything related to DDNS. When Evotel responded to my ticket about DDNS, they actually suggested to download the DynDNS/No-IP software if I wanted dynamic DNS.

It was the wireless feature on these PON routers that was portrayed as problematic. The 4-port switch was not a problem. The EPON unit that I linked to on Page 2 does not include the wireless feature and it basically just a fiber modem. I'm not familiar with the VOIP stuff so can't really comment on that. I never used the included BELL telephone.

Matrix Warehouse Stoneridge got back to me. They cannot get stock of this unit.

Not a problem man, ive spoken to Evotel regarding the VOIP on this router and its all cleared up, ill have to look more into it if i do however get a new router but that will only be at the end of this year or next year. Should be minimum a year for sure. Nice 20 ms is decent, if its pretty stable even better !

Guess ill just disable wireless and add a AP via the rj-45 port. Evotel only supply the EPON unit with wireless i presume ?

Just to clarify, when I said "...these PON routers..." I was talking about the TP-Link units and not the router supplied by Evotel. The wireless works fine on the Evotel unit.
