Issues with K3520 modem and WMP 11

I am having a problem where my Huawei K3520 3G modem closes and loses signal when I’m watching a video clip using Windows Media Player 11. This occurs within 1 minute of the clip playing. The error I get is: “Mobile connection not possible. Ensure that no other programs are using your device, and try again in a short while”
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the modem and WMP and updating both programs but the problem is still there.
My OS is XP Home SP3.
I hope someone out there can help me with this.

This is a strange problem! What happens if you play your clip with a different player like VLC? Does the problem persist?

The connection stays open with VLC. I suppose i could live with that, but you're right, it is a strange problem not to mention annoying.
BTW, listening to music on WMP also drops the connection but there's always itunes for that.

I wonder if this is a problem with the virtual CD-ROM in the device. It seems the emulation is not complete and it upsets some software that queries for a CD-writer. Try disabling the drive letter for the device as per the instructions in this post.

Well your trick worked. I also have a 2Gb SD card in my device and after disabling that drive letter i no longer have the problem. Although naturally I also can't access the memory card now.

How many drive letters does your modem get? One for the virtual CD-ROM and one for the SD card?
What happens if you give the SD card a drive letter but not the virtual CD-ROM?

Hopefully this problem can be fixed with a firmware update for your modem.

My modem gets two drive letters and when I disable the one for the virtual CD-ROM I don't have the problem anymore. Therefore the SD card can still keep its drive letter.

My apologies. Disabling only the virtual drive didn't work. It just took alot longer for the connection to fail. I have now disabled both the drive letters and it seems to be ok.
