Apple have just suggested that they'd like more to repair a Bluetooth keyboard than I think it cost in the first place.

Basically it packed up and then a game of prove you bought it started. Pretty much because they don't have serial numbers it becomes my problem to prove I bought it.

I wasn't trying for a warranty claim but to charge R864 odd to fix a keyboard that I think was R800 new seems outrageous in the extreme.

Wanted a replacement connector for my IPOD shuffle (which initially only cost R850). They wanted R350 for it (this is not the normal IPOD connector, this one is close to a headphone jack).

Anyway, managed to get one for $1 on e-bay including delivery from Hong Kong to SA - Apple and I store know how to charge..

Edit: Similar product on the US store...$19 :wtf:

This is one area where I am very critical of apple - your reward for brand loyalty is a tub of asseline the second anything goes south.

I have no idea where this comes from though. I have taken a few nintendos (ds lites) to core for repairs and these have been quite affordable. A power brick for a MacMini though set me back close on 2K. Half of what I paid the machine!

While I'm happy to finally have a iStore in PE I wont actually use them for anything I don't need urgently. I'd rather wait until I'm overseas and buy from Apple.

They're independently owned and operated so while they may be affiliated with Apple they are not Apple.

I never said they were Apple or were owned by Apple. They are Apple's reps on the ground in SA. They are the go-to-people for Apple product support in SA.
They are as you say affiliated with Apple and so their word is the official Apple word in SA. When Core suggests, it's Apple suggesting, with a focus on "Apple solutions".

"Apple Premium Resellers have been recognised by Apple for providing superior customer service with a focus on Apple solutions, service and support."

Doesn't matter who. They're the reps and if Apple mothership is happy to have them mess up their name, well that's their decision.

Anyway - I got my keyboard back, googled Apple bluetooth keyboard tear down and fixed the thing myself. Faulty contact was the problem.

There was no evidence that Apple/iStore/man in the moon had even looked at what the problem might be.
