I am in the market for a Macbook and was leaning towards the M2 Max but the pricing of the M2 Max vs the M3 Max seems off.

I mean the M2 Max 16 inch (1TB SSD, 12 core CPU, 38 core GPU & 32 GB Unified memory) is going for R79 999, and the M3 Max 16 inch (1TB SSD, 14 core CPU, 30 core GPU & 36 GB Unified memory) is going for R81 999. This will just surely push you to get the M3 Max!

So is it just me or does the iStore have ridiculous pricing for the Macbook Pro M2 vs the M3 Max?

And will the M2 Max price go down in the new year as it can't just be 2K cheaper than the latest version?

M2 Max SACurrent Pricing: M3 Max SA Current Pricing:

We need to petition to Apple to not let core get away with this crap.

I wonder if Apple know how much Core is naaing us.

Which of those two prices are correct, relatively speaking is it the M3 Max that’s “cheap” or the M2 Max that’s expensive??

Just iStore things.

It's R73k at Digicape for the M2.

Regrettably I'm not sure third world **** holes are high up on Apple's "official presence" list.

Maybe in the event that SA boycotts Apple products they might change their minds but that's pretty unlikely (both that Apple would change their outlook on SA and that SA consumers would boycott Apple products).

The one you quoted is a 14 inch and the one's referenced are 16 inch.

I would say the M2 is expensive, as that price is around its starting price when it was launched.

That one's R60K. I don't know if it indicates any trends.

You must also realise that the M2 Max for R79,999 is the top of the line option and the M3 Max for R81,999 is the base M3 Max. The top of the line M2 Max actually outperforms the base M3 Max in GPU things. It doesn't have ray tracing support though and mesh shaders and some video encoders, but for other things I think the 12/38 M2 Max outperforms the base 12/30 M3 Max by 5-10% for GPU powered workloads. There is a cheaper M2 Max 12/30 variant as well. 38 GPU cores vs 30 make a difference, also the memory bandwidth on the base M3 Max is 300GB/sec while it's 400GB/sec on the M2 Max. M3 Max base is about 25-30% slower in some GPU tasks than the top end M3 Max.

The real performer M3 Max is the 16 inch 14/40 version which comes with 48GB RAM and that's R93,999. Funny enough when that M3 Max 14/40 is used in a 14 inch chassis it throttles down at high loads and you get performance approaching the base 12/30 M3 Max.

I have a MacBook Pro 2019 and this year I wanted to upgrade I saw a great price. I use the Adobe products im buying it now but it will be this year.

Poor English aside there is a reason that the 13” M2 MBP is going on promo/special.

It’s (relatively) speaking the worst Apple silicon product out. Price to performance ratio + the old design.

Depending on your budget you go one of two ways (imo):

- Kitted out M1 Air

Or

- Base level M2 Air.

Get the Pro if your workflow requires serious processing as the Pro’s fans will mean minimal throttling.

For pro work he should also have 16GB of RAM at least and 512GB SSD (256GB is slow).

I dunno who you mean wrt he, purple is a she but yeah let’s see what she says wrt her usage requirements.

What we also need to take into acc is the Ram & storage of her outgoing machine.

At least 16GB RAM and at least 512GB SSD for pro work is compatible with that. I'm assuming pro is something you make money from.

Pro = you make money doing this.
Make money doing what? I know writers that could easily earn a living with the lowest spec'ed whatever as long as it had a screen and a keyboard. I know photographers who go around earning a living with moderately spec'ed M1 or M2 Airs. Videographers, graphic designers, the guy in accounting... all "pros" making money.

You really need to know what they do first.

Good for you. Thanks for your opinion.
