iStore selling lion

The iStore will be selling Lion on a disc from today for R75 plus the $29 to buy Lion. How it works is you purchase Lion then pause the download then come to your istore and use the disc to install it. If you recently bought a mac in June everthing will be free and they will install Lion for you.
 
So you're paying R75 for a dvd . . . meanwhile anywhere else you'd just walk into the apple store and download it at no additional cost. :mad:
 
Was at the iStore in Vodaworld this morning looking for a solution as I'm now busy downloading for second time after first one ended up being corrupt. Anyway, they told me "sorry, can't help". I bought on 9 June and eventually got my free upgrade voucher on the US website because the SA one didn't have the claim form links.
 
I will still wait a while. Seems that there is a few issues to resolve

Why would you do that? If you've already started the download, why not just see the process through? It couldn't really be much simpler... If it's an install disk you want, there are so, so many guides online... The whole thing even might take you all of 2 minutes to set up and then, just the time it takes your optical drive takes to burn the actual disk.

EDIT: Just re, re, re read the post... I get it now. The iStore has Lion on disk... you're not actually downloading it to burn to disk.

Lol. I really wish Apple would take more interest in SA. The demand for apple products is growing. R75 is probably not too bad, considering apple plans to charge $69 for a Lion Flash disc

I can think of a few words starting with C that would aptly describe Core.

Oh dear, a Windows fanboy who hasn't thought this through... Even if you chose this option and pay Core's R75 it's still Lion on your Mac for R300 odd. Last time I looked, Windows 7 started at around R1300. Pity us poor Mac users ;)

And that's for windows 7 starter edition, which has no AAC, H.264 or MPEG-2 support, no media centre and no aero support. You might as well run XP! ultimate retailed for about R2800 when it was launched.

Aaargh .... My third download now also got stuck at 2.14 GB, just sits there and states " ... Less than a minute remaining". Pausing and resuming gets it going again just to give you a "failed" message at around 95%. After that it shows as "installed" on the app store, but the install app is corrupt so you can't use it.

Hi Dell fan,

It looks like I'm gonna have to go this route. Where did you get this info, as the iStore in Vodaworld seems to be completely clueless about this?

You can get a Windows 7 upgrade for much less than that.

Is there no way to copy the download link to a download manager like wget etc?
 
Just a note for those of you that get the disc, you have to copy the contents to your /applications folder otherwise the Lion install just spits and error out at you if you try run it off the disc.

The desktop should suffice too.

Just got back from 'buying' my disk. I felt ripped off that I had to pay for it. On a semi-positive note, if you bought your macbook from an iStore they will give you the disk for free.

It was a mission though because they told me I had to print the email that Apple sent me after buying Lion. Well I didn't get any email after purchasing it and the sales guy was adamant that this is impossible and I had to have got an email. I checked my emails in the store and then they made me log in to my account on their computer and view my purchases on the store, then I had to sign some indemnity form! Well busy installing it now. Hope all goes well.

Yeah I also had to sign some stupid indemnity form. God knows why. All they did was give me a CD :rolleyes:
