Problem is, hitting a human will trash your car and the idea of stopping on the side of the road after you've done that may end badly for you.

What happens when airbags deploy? Doesn't the car stop after that?

As much as I'm happy to keep going if some muppet tries to stand in my way, having my car crap out on me after hitting him isn't going to be much fun...

Airbags are unlikely to deploy from hitting a person...

1) Hitting a moving target is really difficult.
2) If they are in front of the car, you force them to get out the way.
3) Surrendering is placing your life completely at their mercy.
4) These thugs are expecting people not to resist.

That looks to be by chance, she received the worst of the situation. They did clean out the car if you noticed. Kicking the woman for not releasing her valuables, savages indeed.

There's usually no reasoning behind such acts, I guess it is just an instinct of protecting what is yours, in hindsight she would probably realise it was not the best decision.
