If you got a 4 meg line and you call out telkom and you do a speedtest in the tech guys presence i'll be damned if i am gonna pay unecesary callout fee A speedtest of 1meg is definately not 4 meg so there must be something wrong ????

What about the "unnecessary call out fee" ?

If there's nothing wrong with 'your' part of the line- ie, the problem is at the exchange, they claim they'll charge you a fee for wasting their time?

Or is that fee only payable if the oke has to configure your router/splitter etc?

I personally do not have the constitution in me anymore to deal with Telkom call centers. Every time I do it kills me just a little bit.

I have also been having very erratic service despite having numerous ISP accounts.
The problem was almost always after hours, in the evening when speeds dropped to almost nothing, on a 4mb line.

I use the online fault reporting page to log a fault, have to do it most times with my 3g connection as my 4mb line wont even open up Telkom's website.

What I started doing was sending Telkom video evidence of my poor speeds.

I would simply load youtube and try and play a random movie.
I would record my screen showing the youtube clip trying to play and also showing my actual download speeds with DU Meter in the movie.

Everyday I experience this I send them a movie clip as it constitutes a non-service, by their own standards for a 4mb adsl line.
The first few were treated as any normal complaint by Telkom, a courtesy mail saying your problem has been resolved, when it was not.

After a few consecutive days though I made it clear I would not be paying for this non service as it was not an infrequent occurrence, but the norm.

Nowdays my line speed in the evenings has improved dramatically.
I still get the odd days where it sucks and I revert to the above tactic again.
