IT salaries - SA vs Australia

Were you on a work visa? Some companies take liberties if they think it’s too difficult for you to quit.

Yeah, I was contracted to a company, which contracted me to another South African company - which partnered with an Australian company - and provided our services there.

I was in no way under paid in South African terms though. I had no issue with my pay - I just found the comparison interesting. It was around 2006/7, I was only there for six months - even the price of takeaway coffee shocked me. (also my accomodation was taken care of, and I got a daily allowance)

Seems to me like they're comparing the lower to middle of the SA salary ranges with the mid to high ranges of the Aus salary ranges for the same categories. I have no doubt that the Aus salaries work out higher, but this looks a little exaggerated to me. Glad they go on to show the disparity in living costs as well, unlike so many other comparisons like this that don't.
