Does anyone perhaps know what a Systems Analyst with 5 or more years experience in the IT field should earn?

That depends... is this Systems Analyst capable of analysing say for example... an online forum system and making sure his thread goes into the right section?

Systems Analyst is just a fancy title, much like Business Analyst. The responsibilities seem to vary greatly, so I guess it would depend on the responsibilities defined. Also things like location etc.

5 years exp + top qualifications (honours degree + post grad certifications) = R450-R700K... this is what the SA's at FNB were getting paid last year when I was there...

What's are the major differences between a systems analyst and a business analyst?

A BA represents 'business' interests whereas the SA represents IT/Technology's interests. Both roles can be similar depending on the job, but generally an SA should have a programming/technology background whereas a BA doesn't necessarily need that in-depth tech knowledge. But this all depends on the specific job/role.

You can get anything from R7K to R70K pm, it all depends on what you know, who you know, where you will work and how well you can deligate. So can we know answer how long a piece of string is?

What is it with everyone having a fancy job title? What's wrong with calling someone who fixes pc's a PC Technician, instead of a Computer Engineer. I know people working in a call centre, but their job title is a Systems Analyst. I mean really, they answer a phone and give the most useless advice, they don't analyze anything.

A friend of mine basically manages stock in a warehouse for a very large IT company. His title is also "System Analyst". He hasn't analysed a system in his entire bloody life.
