Hi guys,

I work for an IT company as a technician but I got to do a quote for a client. He wants a high end VGA and sound card but he wants them to be on the same pci expansion board. Is this even possible and if so does anyone know the item name or an item code?

Monkey 101 is correct. The 3000/4000/5000 series ATi cards have audio over HDMI. You may need to purchase an additional DVI-to-HDMI adapter, depending on the card.

True, BUT!!! The Radeon 4670 is the cheapest/ lowest end card where the HDMI out supports full 5.1 sound output without lagging a bit in, for example, blu-ray movies.

So I'd suggest looking at at least that and up.

4670 goes for about R700.
I'd suggest as "high-end" either a 5850 or 5870 if he's got cash, and if he's got no budget at all, get him a 5970.

How is his budget? Only get something 5series no less than the 5670.

He's got a big budget...complaining about having two cards, one for sound one for vga. I don't see the problem but anyway

is the sound just a passthrough of his onboard then?
