Not quite sure if this is the right place, but it has to do with electricity I'll give it a go.

Connected my itron unit last night and noticed my house in standby is 0.24kw ... If I turn on my kitchen lights that jumps to 0.35kw and boiling the kettle 2.5kw. So the instantaneous consumption works.

This morning walk past and 0.24kw as standard and nothing used. I showered and left the house an hour later - 3.4kw! 10x the consumption!

I was still issuing nothing though - but I heard about some geyers and timers etc? Does a geyser use power when a tap isn't open?

Could it have been off last night (timer from municipality)?

Ah ok. So standby is the 3.5kw most the time and guessing when municipality use the timers and it's off, that's when it drops. But that isn't the norm

Edit : Assuming they do that. Think I read that they could turn off geyser in peak times

3.5kw is while your geyser is heating up. Once it reaches temperature, the thermostat will switch off the element, until the temp inside drops enough, when it will switch on again.

Ah - great, thank you !

Jip, geysers are mofos with electricity consumption. Do everything you can to stop heat loss - get a geyser blanket, wrap pipes etc, to minimize the temperature drop and the number of times they need to switch on off. Also look at getting a geyser timer, I have mine for an hour in the morning before I get up, I have boiling hot water during my morning shower, in the evening it is still warmish.
