Its either a Samsung S4, a Samsung S5, a iPhone 5S or a Sony Z3

Cons:

S5: Stupid flaps for charging.

iPhone: Poor Battery (Confirmation needed) , Not android. Battery life is quite a problem with her current phone, so the new one must be much better.

Z3: No OTA updates, More flaps, UI isnt that great.

S4: Possibly not getting Android 5.0

Im trying to convince her to get the S4 because its a good all rounder and I think she will get the hang of touchWiz very easily but she keeps saying "its too old".


Her current phone is a Z10.


What are your thoughts?

You say Z3 UI isn't great but recommend Touchwizz :erm: :sick:

Sony and HTC have the two best Android skins. One minimalist, one extensive.

Also my first Z used to upgrade OTA all the time.

Z3 has the best battery life of all the phones mentioned.

Z3 was already confirmed for lollipop.

Z3 has both a charging dock and magnetic charging cable so you no need to touch the flaps.

Z30 btw has much better battery than the Z10.

To be honest, when I first used the S5, the UI was very simple, you have your home screen and the rest are the apps. I dont see how that isnt favoured.

Well not with the Z3, you need PC companion for the updates.

If you don't like the flaps, the Sony Experia Z series all have flaps I think. Z3 most definitely has flaps, S5 has flaps as you pointed out. The flaps are actually useful, water protection. You could also check if you could get a wireless charger, then you won't have to bother with them.

The choice comes down to personal preference mostly, if you want to avoid the flaps and get a new, flagship phone then your choice is the LG G3 or the iPhone 6.
 
iphone 6 - 450pm smart50 telkom mobile, isn't this deal better than 5s?i ask because a 4inch screen is too small.

I suggest z3,z3 compact,note 4,iphone 6 or Lg g3.

I guess it depends on her budget and which operating system she prefers. My mom isnt clued up on technology but luvs her s4 mini cos it is simple to use.

My mom is with MTN corporate and the iPhone 6 isnt on the spreadsheet, only the 5/5c/5s/6+

Also the S4 is only R300/pm with 250 megs of data.
 
I agree with ur mum. The S4 is "too old", she will be bored of it. How much is the Z3 and G3 on her contract, will it be a big difference in price?

Z3 is R465 and the G3 is R395. But the G3 is just.....I dont like it.

Remember this phone will be mine in two years.

Battery life of the G3 is horrible. The only new phone that has beggary life than the Z3 is the Z3 Compact.

Will your mum be willing to get a note 4.The best tech goes into the note range,it is the only phone that wont be a fossil in 2 years

And there-in lies the problem. Choosing 1 phone for 2 people over a 4 year cycle. S5 all the way then. In 4 years time the S5 will look like a Nokia 2110i from 1995.

Maybe then get a S5.

The note... Too big for my liking. Too big to handle
 
For a 4 year cycle, I'd get the Note or Z3... Otherwise, wait for the S6. IPhone 5S may be worth considering as it will most probably get updates to the latest OS for at least up to iOS 10 in 2 years time
