I have a 16gb iPad 2 loaded with all the music I have in itunes.

But when i right click iTunes\itunes media\music - the contents amount to over 90GB

Any ideas, taking up most of the space on my laptop hdd.

My recommendation is the ipad photo cache taking some serious space!

Or maybe some Naught videos!

It could also be the backups from the iPad, they tend to accumulate. My iPhone backups were in the region of 30gb.

Just have a look at the backups and delete to your liking.

Think ill just copy the music "out" from within itunes program and then delete music folder and reimport

you can also copy your entire itunes music lib folder to an external drive and change the library location under settings.

I have almost 2Tb's of music in iTunes using this technique.

Have you been ripping CDs? Take a look at iTunes' settings. You might have Apple Lossless selected there as the import format. When you sync to iOS, it gets exported to the far more compact AAC format.

Found the problem, the one partner in our office has a Huge music collection, we both have Sharing on, somehow it copied over his collection to mine BUT didnt sync my collection to his.

Stumbled across an album that I did not download in my Music folder BUT it didn't show up in iTunes library when you have iTunes open.
