Ok, so I can sign up for courses en stuff via iTunes now. Will this actually mean something to me, or is it just meant to be supplementary to normal studies? Can I pimp my CV up by using it?

You can add it to your CV if you wish. You can also add the pottery classes you took and the time you scored a hat trick in your neighbourhood footie match.

Some of the universities in the US are considering whether to offer paid courses via this mechanism -- at that stage it would be possible to get credit for completing a course; currently there is no way for them to measure you.

I find it funny how everybody is amazed at iTunes U all of a sudden. It's been available for at least 3 years that I know off :P

It's been a rubbish afterthought ghetto for 3 years you mean. The new iTunesU is actually quite nice. You have a whole proper syllabus to work through and assignments and all sorts.

Ok - got the book last night ...

Wouldn't download directly to the iPad via wirless for some reason, but I got through iTunes. It is pretty much like the Newstand magazines, which is pretty cool .... interactive with videos and animations. Awesome going through something technical with visual aids and I'd have loved that to larn back in the day!

I agree with what someone says though ; the size!

I thought at 1GB it's a be a full book, nut it's only a sample at 51 pages. I'd guess a real book (depending on the subject) to be like 2GB+ and in that case, they should drop both the 16GB and 32GB iPad

Firstly I doubt that most books will take up that much size relative to their content - the Life on Earth book was a demo. Other textbooks will be heavier on text and lighter on video/animated content.

Secondly you can keep wishing, Apple doesn't lower its prices for any man.

Thirdly this is about iTunesU, not iBooks textbooks.

:p

True -- still great though

Oops - sorry ... wrong thread!

But since I've already posted here, I'll continue ;)

I dont' mean drop the prices ; I mean drop the models. The 16GB version must go for sure - the 32GB can stay, I guess. Don't Androids start at 32GB nowadays? I get the feeling the iPad 3 (or 2S) won't have a 16GB model.

But it's cool demo!

I guess.... they could.... I get by with 16gb though.

Androids? Which Androids? There's only about 10 million 'Androids' around.

I get the feeling the iPad 3 (or 2S) won't have a 16GB model.

Fancy a gentleman's wager? ;)

Very.

I get by on 16GB too ... I have nothing on my iPad apart from a few apps. But with a person has 8 x books at 1GB each, it's going to very tight on a 16GB.

I though most - but the Galaxy Tab? Isn't it only 32/64?

Gentlemans wager ... for sure :P On record, I think the iPad 3 won't have a 16GB model ...

True again, except that cost wise it would put the device out of the reach of many people. I believe the textbook authors will accommodate for this I.e. avoid unnecessary video footage as was the case with the demo (for the demo it's understandable as its meant to be a show case for the technology)

In time when we have our 1TB tablets we'll wonder how we could ever function with only 16gb ;)
