In my experience, single player games also get constant updates, sometimes the updates are huge.
 
I understand their need to update, but I wish that they could make the updates available as stand-alone patches that could be downloaded and torrented. I never leave my PC on overnight as it is noisy and power-hungry. Except for games and game patches, all my downloading is done from a Raspberry PI. If they could take such an approach, it would make my life much easier, and it would enable i.e. the OP to copy the patch from someone else.

In this day and age with uncapped internet and fibre growing in leaps and bounds it really doesn't make a difference. All it sounds like is that you have a crappy internet connection, so upgrade that.
 
The problem here in our country we have unreliable Internet and what makes matters worse isp claim they offer uncapped after a certain amount of data used they throttle your connection. Rather add the patch to an expansion pack or something can be bought separately.

For this reason I am afraid of buying new generation console. I don't have time waiting a day or 2 for a patch to be applied. If we were in a fibre area different story.
 
Unfortunately this is only going to get worse, in the first world a 16gb patch is a two minute inconvenience on your 1gbps uncapped fiber line.
