How hard is it for an experienced java developer (5 odd years) to move from J2EE/J2SE to mobile development (J2ME/Android/iPhone)?

According to various job agencies (and apparently the companies they represent) this move is way to hard and your 5 years previous java experience is worth about diddly squat.

Dude java is java.. If you know how to use the API - 100%.

So take a look at the J2ME API.

The only change is the front - end.

That to my knowledge though, i could be wrong.

Dude java is java..

That is what I told them too.

Sure, there would be some changes in approach, like coding for a smaller footprint, but java is java.

I would however like to know from people that is actually working in the mobile development industry.

As per my thread, I think they are talking boolsheet.

What I would do, if I were you, is write your own application in J2ME, or one for Android. Remember Android's Dalvik is based off the J2SE, not the J2ME. Then you can prove that you have skills in that area.

Wouldn't say it is completely true, but not completely untrue.

Are you an experienced Java EE developer? In that case you surely know the HUGE difference between Java EE and Java SE. Guess it depends how you use it. The spec is huge and it is very likely many "experienced" Java EE developers never used JMS, DI, JPA, etc.
