Jaap Scholten is a director at eNetworks, a medium sized ISP based in Cape Town, and co-chairperson at ISPA. He graduated from the Cape University of Technology in Electrical Engineering, 1987.
His working background spans 20+ years in computer networking, from the Arcnet era to where we are today.
After a brief spell at broadcasting, he worked for Rio Tinto as network engineer in the 80′s and then joined Dimension Data from 1989 to 1994 as Technical Manager, working mostly on WAN technologies, including the advent of Cisco into the country.
After various ventures as an entrepreneur, Jaap took the plunge into the Internet when joining Dockside Internet in 1997 to 2000, working in Cape Town, London and Amsterdam. After a short sabbatical, he assisted in running Entelligence as a business, where after he joined ex-colleague and long-standing friend Jon Maliepaard at eNetworks in 2002. eNetworks has since grown exponentially and is an active member of ISPA.
Jaap has a keen sense of relevant technology and practical business, but to keep things sane, spends most of his spare time making wine with his family or behind the camera. He helps his two sons with either programming MindStorm robots or figuring out the guitar chords for the latest Nirvana song.
