Jagged Alliance 3

Jagged Alliance 2 was one of my all time favourite games. Spent a lot of hours playing it and it still hits some very nostalgic tones.

BUT, I watched some streamers play JA3 on early access and I was not initially impressed. The voice lines from some of the mercs seem overly forced and gets annoying due to being repeated too often. I remember JA2 voice lines being iconic and almost ahead of its time.

I also don't like the environment in which the game is set. It is a war time African country and it does not feel "right". The accents are over the top and it has some borderline stereotypes and I feel that both may really annoy me. (example that comes to mind is of a African woman being portrayed as strong and intelligent and then suddenly becoming very jealous of her husband and making comments like "I hope he doesn't die, so that I can kill him". It's meant to be funny, but wasn't.

I'll certainly keep checking in on the game, but my initial impression is that story may dissuade me.

JA3 and Against the Storm were both on my Steam Wishlist. They are both on Humble Bundle Choice this month. Pay $12 and get Steam codes for 8 games to keep.

Have played JA3 for about 6 hours now and the voice lines and accents actually don't bother me that much. There's a bit of condescension in the tonality of the storyline, but it is done tongue in cheek in typical JA fashion.

At this price the game is definitely worth it. I doubt whether I'd buy it at full price, R630, but I would recommend it at 50% off or better.
