Hi There,

Anyone here own a Jaguar XFR? Always admired this V8 and there is one for sale. I have knowledge on Fords and Nissans but limited on Jags and keen to get an understanding of what to look out for and running costs in relation to servicing and parts etc. The car does have a full service history but it is out of warranty. It is a 2014 model. Option to buy an after market warranty but these definitely are not sufficient cover. Anyone that could comment on reliability and maintenance wise would be appreciated. Thanks

Firstly, check the FSH. IIRC you can send the VIN to JLR and they can show you the FSH, or a dealer can also do it for you.

The AJV8 is a pretty bulletproof engine, except for two things: the crossover coolant pipe, which can let go suddenly and then cook the engine, and the timing chain guide tensioners, which were plastic/aluminium pre-2013/4.

If the timing chain is elongated, you will hear a very distinctive ticking/slapping sound at idle - do a search on YT to familiarise yourself with the sound.

I can't speak about the interior and other equipment, but the fix for the crossover coolant pipe is +-R12k, and you might as well do the tensioner fix while the supercharger is out (and change the supercharger oil). This also shouldn't cost more than R5-6k.

A lot of car, and that V8 growl... :D
