I know this is big overseas and not so much here.

Wondering if any peeps are saving some cash for Xmas gifts till after the 25th in the hope of massive sales thereafter?

I presume stores like Amazon will have some sales that we can also access? Assuming the local offerings will be along the lines of 5-10% off again :/

Aside from things specifically connected to Xmas I don't see why they would discount anything heavily.

I'm getting the sense that many SA shops are raising prices anyway & then giving discounts on the boosted price.

More than likely this. That and most of the things that I want now are excessively expensive. Had to work hard to find something that my SO could by me that wasn't rubbish or out of the price range. Settled on Dragon Age: Inquisition. A big house was a bit pricey

+1, it is happening! I've did see how the price of the Bose speaker went up and down on weekly basis in the last 3 months.

Similarly, you don't save anything if you buy something which should cost R2000, but has its price increased to R2500 for Xmas and is then offered at a "massive discount" for R2000 after Xmas :/

Prices are usually hiked steeply at Xmas time.
Its a decades-old tactic.

For this reason I do shopping for the family DURING THE YEAR! Yes, that's right if I have to give gifts, I usually do the purchases in May, June, July.

A classic example is the new trend of Christmas lights and everyone lighting up their houses. We all know those things are cheap Made in China stuff, and they get off charging R160 for a basic set.. Well guess what, we went into the shops on Christmas Eve, and found them marked down by 60%, being sold off at cost, or less who knows what they really cost.

IF you are smart, you'll do your shopping long before the silly season starts, and then wait until the 27th, and days like today to score on the "discounts" i.e. paying sensible prices not the rip-off arse rape prices.
