January Salary Advance

Have any of you guys or gals had your employer offer a January advance on your salary due to the "longer" period between pay-checks?

Mine is offering 25% for mid month due to some people needing to buy stationary, school clothes, etc for their kids. It's probably also worth noting that we never received bonuses in December.
 
What a way to help people **** themselves over.

Like the early December payments aren't already bad enough.

I totally agree with that! That's why a budget is so important.

No. Irresponsible employer. The employees are now going to battle to get through to February payday. The OP says they didn't get bonuses which suggests that they are conditional, not like a contractual 13th cheque. In other words the bonus should not have been relied upon. It also suggests that no matter how irresponsible the employees are, the employer will bail them out.
 
We paid salaries on the 15th of December and bonuses on the 23rd. Also made it clear that no advances or loans would be allowed in January. Effectively there's no reason for anyone to come up short or to complain about it being such a long period. The only reason they wouldn't get through is if they didn't plan it well and blew it all.
 
To add to the situation, the January increases are backdated from February.
 
I've never really seen advances/loans for "salaried" employees. Maybe once or twice for serious stuff (hospital bills).

Lower end staff earning wages..yeah lots...along with a bunch of garnishee orders. Complete mess that side.

That said people that end each month with 20 cent to their name are a constant source of amazement. For people earning reasonable amounts & that can plan further than 2 hours ahead that should not be possible.

I've said it a few times, but in general people are terrible with finances. Which is why they fall into that "buy property", "buy gold", "buy this limited coin" crap all the time.

Fools and money.

Can't do basic household budget, but can have kids. And people keep telling me parenting is difficult. :crylaugh:

Well, I normally go broke, as in Capitec card account is empty, on the 23rd or 24th, the day before payday... is that a bad thing?


NB: My Capitec sub accounts still has some moola in and if it wasn't for that 9% RA debit order I'd have had much more moola in the bank account to begin with. :D

And being irresponsible with money is the only way one can get into some financial trouble? My employer offers interest free emergency loans, not January salary advance as in OP's case, now if that means that means not getting into more debt by borrowing money from the bank at high interest why should it be a problem?

Some employers take active interest in their employees wellbeing, it does not in any way make the employer a nanny. Some employers offer free medical testing, free counselling to those battling with alcohol, subsidized transport and a number of other things which they deem to be in the best interest of their employees.

nah I mean the guys that need to borrow money to buy smokes. I mean how can you study finance for years at varsity, be employed, earn a reasonable and manage that? Fkin how?????
 
Still haven't touched my December salary,double bonus or tax return. I'm living way under my income bracket. I wonder why most people just start spending money when it enters their account. Is it weakness, poor planning or just being starved of money during the year that they just blow everything?
