With the eye on Android and mobile development is there a java certification worth getting?

I would say yes. You do need quite a bit of Java knowledge for Android dev. Getting the certificate definitely helped me with my Android apps :)

if you are going to make a career out of it, yes.
if you are only going to mess about with it at home, no

my view anyway.

Thank you for the link however...

Problem is, well how I understand coursera, you *just* write the exam online vs going to a prometric or otherwise internally recognised institution.

From my experiance companies prefer certification that was actually written in a brick and mortar place. Well at least the current one I'm working at and the previous ones.

...unless I am mistaken?

I think for any career, having some extra certs will help in most cases.

Do something like the OCJP?

Coursera is verifable if you take the signature track.

Also I've not seen a single Android job requiring certification. They all require you to have apps on the app store
