Java or not

Hi guys,

This is my first post on the forums.

I have BB curve 8900. I managed to setup my email and internet on the BB quite easily, after reading what has previously been posted here. I am just unsure about enabling Java. It seems to be off by default in the internet browser options. If I enable it, would I be incurring extra data costs when using Java on sites that require this, or would it still be covered by the free BIS? I know this is probably a silly question, but humor me

I am quite sure it would still be covered if you are on VC's BB contracts. As far as I know all internet traffic from your phone is free through that.

Yes Sir, you are of course correct.

Anyway, so I guess the answer is to allow Javascript does not necessarily incur additional data costs. I think I'll leave the option on "prompt" for the time being...

I just turned on; had no issues that I know of.

It slows some websites down and makes others run faster for the ones you visit regularly you can bookmark them and decide whether to enable or disable java per a bookmark.

Fiddling with my Berry I came across a few useful short cuts for browsing,one of which is pressing "j". This refreshes the page with javascript enabled (message reads "Refreshing with Javascript enabled"). So as I understand it, you don't have to enable it in the browser options, or even bookmark each site to your preference. Javascript can be enabled on the fly on a site by site basis. I must admit that I have not tested this extensively, so I may stand to be corrected.

It doesn't work very well. I've come across a lot of websites where that does not work (depending on your firmware, most often I find that it only activates java for the current page and resets on the next page. You have to change it in options, which is what I do, press 's' to get to options quickly. I usually keep java off and use Opera for websites that rely on java to work properly (although with OS 5 this isn't as much of a problem).
