Looking around for an SUV, and this seems like good value for money.
Anyone be having it? Any negatives I should be aware of? Maintenance/running costs?

At R400k it's more of less what I have in mind, price wise, so any alternatives welcome.
I've also considered the Hyundai ix35 and Mazda CX-5. The Hyundai wins as far as boot space is concerned, a big consideration for me.

Edit: Perhaps the Honda CR-V?

Actually, the Renegade sparked the whole Jeep thought, although the luggage space seems ridiculously tiny. This, unfortunately, is a deal-breaker for me.

PS. It is otherwise very awesome though!

Jeep Compass?

Do yourself a favour and get a decent vehicle like the Tucson or the Sportage...

I would an even better decent vehicle & get the Kuga; CX-5 or X-Trail.

that new x-trail is butt ugly. cant believe they screwed it up so badly. wtf it needs to look like the other turds is beyond me.

I took a rented Compass for two weeks through deserts in southern Namibia. It went soft-roading a lot better than I thought it would. Not sure which model, but it had a reverse camera, and a bunch of nice off-roading touches (tyre pressure sensors, etc.).

Jeep Compass

Apparently only 43 % of owners would buy it again.

I would say Jeep LOST.

Yeah been looking at tonnes of reviews. They're not stellar.... They're not horrible, but not great... Looking more towards the CX-5 and Tucson/ix35 at the moment, and perhaps the CR-V.

On leave for three weeks, so plenty of time to test drive the lot :)

I'd provably not buy the same car twice either. Also keep in mind that there hasn't been more than minor upgrades since the first car was released - that may affect the decision because it's still the same car.

But then again, there are better rivals out there

So after checking out the Jeep Compass (and Renegade for the heck of it), the Honda CR-V, the Rav4, the Subaru Forester, the Mitsubishi ASX, and the Mazda CX-5, we've decided on the CX-5 2.0 A/T.

Of all the vehicles this felt like the most well-rounded out the box, and the features that comes standard makes it the best value for money, as far as we're concerned. I did have to get the leather seats as optional, front and rear PDC, and the lock-on-start, but even with this the quote came to just over R351000 incl VAT, which I think isn't bad.

Little bummed about the trade-in we're getting for the Mazda 3 we're trading in, but the high mileage is biting us in the butt

It seems more and more people are going the Mazda route over its rivals. They have a solid offering at the moment :)
