Network status shows the JHB radio network as 'Degraded'

My primary tower (Rosebank) is up and down - busy watching it on utTraceStar....
Network status also shows anything from 2 to 10 towers down or degraded at various times

Whats up with that - JHB hit a speed wobble?

Don't worry about it. This problem should be fixed in a couple of hours. Your tower is still online, but degraded.

Usually, incidents like these don't take long to fix. ;)

/me thinks due to the windy weather, iBurst antenna are flying around.

and since they are not using cable for their backhaul, then high latency might be expected

All in the name of wireless

I'm not sure which tower I'm connected to - Rosebank or Sandton - I pretty much have line of sight with both.

But my connection is playing yo-yo tonight.

Yo-yo pretty much describes it. There's also that metaphor of the whore's knickers...

I'm at the corner of rivonia and grayston. Have no clue which tower I connect to as I am behind a router and am too lazy to disconnect.

I did lose acces for some time. But then I went to make myself a sandwich and by the time I got back the access was back. At better speeds as well it would seem.

I was downloading from an ftp site at about 45kB/s. It went down. Now it's back at about 65kB/s.

We had several brown-outs last night as well, around 12am. Not a power outage, but enough to set off all the surrounding house alarms. :D Could be the cause of a few hiccups on the network too...

I was getting poor speeds and frequent disconnects until about 12.30am, after which it was stable and back to full speed.

also had a disconnect yesterday at arond 4pm, but the seem to have sorted it out quickly. wouldnt know how speeds are, as i am already capped :(

:D

I didn't take a screenshot, but you will never believe me. Yesterday morning before seven the load on northcliff was 2 (in words: TWO). Amazing. I kept staring at it with my mouth open  Was nearly late for work.

But yes, this week has been worse than last week.

Even on weekends Northcliff tower is loaded, i dont mind it being loaded during the peak sessions but, off peak i get sick of it, 3 load all the time and even at 12Am on saturday. have phoned them but they say nothing is wrong.

Well, nothing is wrong really. Except that its terribly overloaded, but theres no technical fault.

So youve got to tell them that you simply want another tower, theres nothing they can do for that one now except try and lighten the load.
