Great news, but "DINX" has an odd 'ring' to it. Just a suggestion, now might be the time to consider shuffling the prefixes to the various INXes, and making the prefix into a suffix, e.g. INXD, INXC, INXJ, etc...that would also allow for variants like INXJ1, INXJ2 or whatever might happen in the future.

That is why I suggested variants like INXJ1, INXJ2.

Taking your "Stutterheim" example, using the current prefix naming scheme, one could end up with StINX, whereas the suffix naming scheme might result in INXSt.

I lost you at the intersection of "INX" and "esT".

If the INX formerly known as JINX and recently renamed to INXJ1 were to spawn one or more other INXes in Johannesburg, and those were named INXJ2, INXJ3, INXJ4, etc, then one could collectively refer to them as the INXJxes [where x is replaced by a positive integer if one wants to refer to any specific INX in the greater Johannesburg area].

There is no formal convention with the naming of the Internet Exchanges. If you look that the names of other exchanges around the world, some of them use the *INX, some use *IX, others use *AP and others use *IXP. Its just a name.

And to respond to some of the other comments: There will never be a second JINX. There are a few smaller Internet Exchanges within Gauteng but none of them are are even close to the size of JINX. I expect that we will see JINX being geographically distributed in the future in a similar way to LINX and AMS-IX.

It was a suggestion to deal with the strangeness of "DINX".

@ambo, never say never. Rosebank could one day face frequent power outages requiring JINX redundancy throughout Joburg, or Rosebank could become Hillbrow#2, or Godzilla-spawn might decide to breed there.
