Hi Guy's, please can anyone give me some advice here.

To fill you all in, It is my sisters wedding in cape town next saturday. I applied for leave just over 3 weeks ago, but when I called my head of HR she understood that it was under extenuating circumstances (I was waiting on my dad to decide whether they were driving down meaning I could join them, or if they were going to fly down)

After my folks made their minds up, I then sent my leave form within minutes asking for 5 days leave which are due to me. I finally received a reply this past Friday after asking every day for a response (They like to ignore me) and it came back with a thick declined through it. My ceo has now finally replied to my emails asking politely for a reason why it was denied. In a nutshell he has said it is because there would only be one person in the office for 5 days and that is not acceptable.
I would be fine with that if it wasn't for the fact that 95% of our depot's have only 2 ppl in each office and they all take full leave just fine. Infact, when I first joined the company.. the first 3,5 years was just 2 of us and we never had a problem running the place for weeks on end alone. After my original colleague left, it was then just myself and another guy for several years after that. Never an issue with leave.

Apologies if this is hard to follow, I am in a bit of a rage right now. What do you guys suggest I do? Because this is obviously a load of utter nonsense from the CEO. I have spoken with colleagues at our other depot's and they are all outraged and gobsmacked.

Thanks

Haha I won't do that just yet. I am seriously considering telling them to shove it and going anyway. Some things are more important than a crappy job. This company has stuffed me around since the end of Jan. My manager was let go in Jan and i was made acting manager with all of the workload and responsibility that go's with it with immediate effect. I spoke to the CEO at the start of feb about putting my hand up and wanting the managers position. He said of course I am the best candidate and that they are not looking at anyone else and thanks for putting my hand up. I must just chill, 4th march is the old managers court date (he took them to ccma for unfair dismissal) and I must wait till that is over.

March ticks over into april. Mid april I am now gatvol having had all my emails ignored asking for some resolution to the situation. I have been only polite and courteous this whole time. My big boss was then down a few days later and I requested a meeting with him to discuss the situation which he granted. He said it is unacceptable that it has taken so long and he will hold a board meeting the next day to discuss it. The next week we discover an advert for the managers position in our local paper. I am obviously angry. I call my head office and NOBODY KNOWS A THING. My national sales manager, CEO and head of HR know nothing, BUT the CEO says I am welcome to send me my CV if i want to apply for the job :/ .. send my cv to the company I have worked for almost 8 years....

I then send an email on the Tuesday addressed to all the relevant people asking if seeing as nobody knows who placed the ad, If it was a mistake, could it please be retracted as my own clients are calling me and asking why am I not manager? and some of them even laughing at me and saying I must be terrible at my job if they have not made me manager. So the situation is now reflecting poorly on me. Infact some of my customers applied for the job themselves, saying "hey maybe I will be your boss soon"

My big boss then makes me work on the Thursday public holiday, because we have Korean engineers in town and I had to help them (I worked half a day for nothing as when I got to them, they said it was miscommunication and they only need me Friday) ,The next day my big boss sends out an sms to myself and the engineers and says at the end that I the manager will do my best to help them in anyway.
I then smsd my boss back to say actually Sir, I am not the manager, and my email I sent on Tuesday has once again been ignored. He then calls me and says no I am 100% correct in how I have handled the situation and the procedures I have followed, and that he thinks of me as the manager. He says give the CEO until the next week tuesday to reply, If he does not then send him a reminder. if nothing, then he will deal with it.

I send an email on tuesday after no reply. The next day is voting day. Thursday I get to work with a snotty email from the CEO. He does not like my tone first of all. (I spoke with respect in all of my emails, and the big boss was more than happy with them) , He then goes on to say that just because I am the natural successor to the old manager does not mean I should think that the job is mine. They will look at whoever they want to find the best possible candidate for the job (no internal advertising was done)
He then carries on for a bit, making it clear he is not on my side. So of course I then started looking for a new job. I told him I feel I am not being treated fairly and given the chance to prove myself. We have hit target and the warehouse is operating much better since I have been acting manager.. ( I am sure they are happy to have saved a minimum of 40k in salary by not promoting me to manager these last months)

So anyways this is a long story, but I have a feeling the big boss had a word with him to give me an answer, and now that a little later I have asked for leave, this is now a perfect opportunity for him to give me some pain.
I am not being paranoid. sadly it seems like everyone in this company has problems. I know the one manager took a year and half to start being paid her managers salary, the list really goes on and on. I am now fed up.

Having your first laugh of the day at 14h54 is not on, you must try laugh earlier in the day.

Why thank you for noticing :)

Consistency is the key :erm:

I see what you did there ;)

Maybe he has an obsession for desks, managers and poo.

Not desks and poo, carpets and poo.Desks are too easy to clean, whereas the carpet has to be hauled out and replaced.

Anyways, this is why im obsessed with this :

+1 it's piss easy getting booked off for being sick

Not that I've done it before, but sometimes I'm feeling better, want to go back to work but need a sick note, so go and then the doc ASKS me till when and from when, get the note (and some meds) and good to go.

Much as this is a horrible idea... its something to possibly think about to CYA.

I agree, go to the doc, say you feeling tired and burnt out and that you would like him to run tests as you struggling to get up in the morning, your energy levels are very low and you struggle to focus in the afternoons.

Get blood tests done, get some energy enhancing prescribed meds (yay!) and casually drop in the conversation that you could really do with some time off to deal with the problem and rest but work just keeps denying your leave.

The doctor will then say the magic words: "How much time do you need off?" to which you reply 5 days :)

Call office, tell them the doc has booked you off sick and enjoy the wedding.

LOL! This reminds me of one day back in 2k10 while the world cup soccer was in full swing.

It was on a monday and I really wanted to watch the game that day and went to the doctor, hoping just to get a note to say I was there for a routine exam or something so I can have a day's sick leave.

To my horror (or not?) I turned out to have a ear infection and was booked off for the entire week :D
