Requirements
2-3 years experience with:
* HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
* Web application development, using mod_perl, PHP, Ruby, ColdFusion, or equivalent platform
1+ years experience with:
* MySQL or similar database backend
* Unix/Linux platforms, with heavy emphasis on the command-line interface
Reasonable proficiency in:
* AJAX
* jQuery
* Debugging, troubleshooting and problem solving techniques
Pluses
* Perl
* Basic CRUD interface design
* Cross-browser and cross-platform development and testing
* Experience working with off-the-shelf and custom CMS technologies
* SVN or other version control system
* Systems administration, software installation and maintenance

Applicant must be a self-starter with strong personal initiative and consistent follow-through. Responsibilities include the initial planning, architecture and implementation of new projects, as well as maintenance and extension of existing applications.
If hired, developers would be expected to spend an initial period of intensive training, with other technical staff in our Cape Town office, in order to gain familiarity with our systems and become proficient in the use of our custom-built CMS.
Job is Contract-to-Perm. The successful applicant will be employed by the Cape Town based office for AllAfrica Global Media. Salary is negotiable based on education, experience and skill level.
