Jogging and Safety

I already do that parkrun, but it runs on weekends only. I want to replace gymming during the week with running during the week.

The only park that I know of is where the parkrun happens, but that is far enough away that I would have to drive there. However, what I can do is run on the suburban streets which are a bit quieter.

I do parkrun on Saturday, and have mapped out several routes around our neighbourhood, and to the local shops for daily exercise

My wife and I go out in the morning, and do a 2.5Km loop round the suburb. Even the dogs have got used to us now, and we have no safety concerns as we are a boomed suburb.

we have no safety concerns as we are a boomed suburb.

Famous last words.
We caught a guy that hit a boomed suburb on Saturday. I can think of multiple previous incidents in boomed suburbs too.

Thanks.

I don't need the points actually. As I said on the other thread, I'm at 26000 already, and if I do parkrun for the rest of the year, I'll easily make it to 45k. All that a fitness tracker will do is get me there a lot faster. Not worth R1000.

Don't forget that you can get Discovery points for volunteering at parkrun 500 per time maximum of 3.

Didn't know that, volunteered this past weekend.

At over 37000 points now. Even if I never do parkrun again this year, my HealthyFood alone should get me to 45000.

Let me rephrase that. "We have no safety concerns as we are in a SAFE boomed suburb".

Well I went for my first solo jog yesterday morning and I didn't die. I wasn't shot, mugged, raped or hit by a car.

Going again on Tuesday afternoon I think.

That's the spirit! (Only reading this now)

Necro Alert!

Hi Everyone :-)

So I'll be based in the Melville (Johannesburg) area until the end of the year.

Is anyone on here familiar with the area? Can anyone recommend jogging routes which are preferably away from the main roads (Empire/Beyes Naude/Barry Hertzog)?

Thanks in advance.

Find a running group on Facebook. I recall there was a group that ran the Melville koppies often. I can't recall where I saw it
