Johan Rupert

I don't understand the term "apartheid beneficiary" in the context of Johann Rupert. Is the presumption that this individual would not have been able to break the ranks of the ultra-rich if there was no apartheid?

Further, would there simply have been no ultra-rich South Africans or would there have been a different set of ultra-rich South Africans? Countries that didn't have apartheid still have ultra-rich people.

Yeah you make a good point. But that's irrelevant to the narrative.

I would understand if he made his money in labour-intensive industries that paid slave wages (e.g. mining), but that hardly applies to him.

White /end

I like him speaking freely and honestly, why sugar coat nonsense, plus he will brilliant as HODOR in GoT

Rupert has always been despised because he speaks against the populist narrative. They hated him during apartheid as well, both sides. It doesn't make him wrong, though.

Don't think he's racist at all, but all the people calling him racist are themselves racists.

Ja, Tom Eaton (whoever that may be) should have watched the whole interview. He would have learnt that Johann Rupert did not take over from his dad but created his own fortune before he started managing his father's riches. Also, the idiot tries to make a point about hard work, cancer and apartheid which do not seem to make sense.

It makes perfect sense.

Fokof net ..... Jy babbel kak en kan nie argumenteer nie.

You just trying to make an argument out of nothing either freddl is too stupid or he doesnt know the history. which when you do makes perfect sense what the tweet is saying.

Funny thing is rupert is world renowned and in sa he is somehow a racist cause of his skin colour and being wealthy.I think the level of intelligence in the audience could not understand what he was saying and could only play the race card and insult..which is sad

What exactly does hard work have to do with apartheid? I think all of us are thoroughly sick of apartheid being dragged into each and every argument in lieu of a good point.

I know my history very well and also a bit further back than 1994. The Ruperts have never been involved in politics. Johann Rupert worked for his money and at the time that his father made his fortune out of tobacco, cancer was not yet linked to smoking. You have to look at everything in the context of the time. You cannot look at the past using the values of today.

That is what makes the Eaton guy an idiot.
