In Cape Town developer events are about startups. Exciting as even full time employees attending want to learn in order to create their own startup on the side. Makes conversations between developers much more interesting.
But in Joburg. Very entry level outdated stuff you can learn off the internet. Cracking jokes. End the talks with asking questions. Give away goodies for correct answers. To hell with bloody quizzes.This is not jeopardy. We live in a world where you can google anything and get the answer instantly.
Joburg events should rather show developers show off what you built, your app, idea whatever or hold talks on how you built it and the challenges you faced. Be practical.
