i know i will probably get teased about this but i absolutely love classical music. i am listening to strauss' "blue danube", what a masterpiece. 10 minutes of absolute heaven.

downloaded best of mozart as well. busy downloading beethoven now.

Don't forget other greats :)

Depending on what era you like and what type of compositions you like, there are many options out there :)

Some of my favorites are Dvorak (landscapes in music)
Chopin (excruciating elegance and emotional turmoil
Shostakovitch (not for the feint of heart - but his Jazz suites are a lot of fun)
Tchaikovsky (the man can get your foot tapping and your heart racing)
Vivaldi (if you like Baroque frivolity)
Grieg (his Piano Concertos are crowd pleasers and his piano works are like songs)
Mendelssohn (at 16 did more for music than most others - and his music has a youthful character which is hard to find)
Sibelius, strong, interesting, acidic. Comes from the colder climes so must be something in the blood :)

But glad you are dipping into the vast world of classical music - its a rewarding journey!

Oh, just try to get the right recordings, otherwise some of the works can sound dull and uninspired, but that's just me. Gardiner conducting the Beethoven is pure bliss

I bought a selection of Bach's arias the other day, including St. Matthew Passion, so beautiful...

Why? Classical music is great!

They don't make music like that any more.

I still reckon the mark of good music is how well it stands the test of time. I'm not just referring to classical music but stuff from the 50s-present as well, a lot of stuff fades into obscurity and the great tunes still get listened to today.

my kind of people *swoon*. i just thought some people here wouldn't appreciate the classical era. i absolutely love it. so many composers to name. i sat on youtube the other day and downloaded to my hearts content. it was like caramel.

I think that the difference between then and now is that back then, music was so much more than just a tune.

I also think the modern world hasn't delivered anyone of the calibre of Bach, Mozart or Beethoven. I think the reason is that, in modern times, songwriters and composers can get away with relatively little work for great reward. Beethoven had to continuously compose in order merely to survive.

How do you download YouTube videos?

How do you download YouTube videos?

www.keepvid.com is my favourite as it lists all the possible formats that the video is available for and also the sizes etc. Just copy and paste the Youtube video link into the website and use that. Its a bit of a work around, but I prefer it as it gives me options for size / quality etc

Just highlighting my favourites you had there.

Classical music has likely been a 1st love for me - coming from a background of a church that is very musically driven and more towards the classical side of things, rather than Gospel.

Mozart, I suppose like most, was my 1st real composer I got into with Eine Kleine Nachtnmuzik. :D
Used to fall asleep to a cassette of Mozart that I had as a kid.

But then came those 3 mentioned above, along with Handel and Beethoven.
I don't have much on my playlist these days, but do have CD's laying around that I grab out of Bargain Boxes at Musica or even from Cash Converters.

I love classical music, an empty, dimly lit lounge and a good book.

Soema downloading Chopin's Nocturne op.9 no.2 in e flat major :D
