http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/new...ta-dead-son-Jett-had-history-of-seizures.html

John Travolta's oldest son Jett, who died suddenly at the family's holiday home in Nassau in the Bahamas, had a long history of seizures dating back to when he was two years old.

Jett, 16, was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease 16 years ago, leading his parents to blame the chemicals in household cleaners and fertilisers.

Travola, 54, and his wife, Kelly Preston, 46, put their son on a detoxification programme based on teachings from the Church of Scientology, but it is not clear if he was also given other medication.

The star couple are both practising Scientologists along with other members of the Hollywood A list including Tom Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes.

Loretta Mackey, the police spokeswoman in Nassau, said Jett had hit his head while in the bath. He was discovered unconscious and taken to hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

The police said they were planning an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Travolta's attorney, Michael Ossi, said that the teenager's death "was completely out of the blue".

He added: "This is the worst day of John's life."

After an autopsy the body will be buried in Ocala, Florida, close to where the family lives.

They had been staying in their property at the Old Bahama Bay resort community on Grand Bahama Island.

Robert Gidel, president of Ginn Resorts, the property's owner, said: "The Travolta family has become like family to us at Old Bahama Bay and we extend our deepest sympathies to them."

Jett was the eldest child of the star of Grease, Saturday Night Fever and Pulp Fiction and his wife, the actress Kelly Preston.

The couple also have a daughter, Ella Blue, who was born in 2000.

Travolta is a qualified pilot and has flown for the Australian airline Qantas when not fulfilling his Hollywood commitments. Such is his enthusiasm for aviation that he persuaded his wife to name their son Jett.

Travolta, his wife Kelly, and Ella Blue were all due to star alongside Robin Williams in a new comedy, Old Dogs, this year.

Unlike his sister, Jett had shown no enthusiasm for following his parents into acting and was interested more in the outdoors and physical pursuits.

"As much as Ella loves showbusiness, he loves the outdoors – sports, swimming, cycling, hiking," the film star has said.

Tragic way to go. Seems the Scientology treatments weren't working. Who'da thunk it? Condolences to his friends and family and I hope this is the final straw in the Travolta scientology era. Or lets just hope it doesn't re-affirm his belief in some warped and costly manner...

Where does it say Scientology was being used to treat him?

Here:

Travola, 54, and his wife, Kelly Preston, 46, put their son on a detoxification programme based on teachings from the Church of Scientology

And they've been outspoken about it in the past as well...

OMW that is shocking, if he was not on medication to help him i hope they feel pretty guilty.

I never knew Scientology tried to cure people in this manner. Surely only complete and utter idiots would not turn to medication for healing?

Scientologists do not rely on conventional medicine - their "church" teaches them not to. And these actors pay the church millions for the "privilege" as well which is even more sickening. And IMO, only compete and utter nutters turn to scientology in the first place...

firstly let me state - I am not in or have ever been associated with this church, however in RSA we are lucky in that we have one of the finest medical cultures in the world. Respect for the other disciplines are accepted here such as Reiki , herbal medicine (which pre-dated and still helps western pharmaceutical companies make so much money - notice I did not say Doctors) meditation etc. Any good Reiki healer,Hypnotherapist or Kinesiologist that test for imbalances within the body and mind will always tell you to consult with your doctor. However there is some (I am told) smidgin of truth to the chemicals - however only a medical doctor can use the words 'cure' in the USa and RSa and this church will probably get into trouble in the USA for making such claims as that is illegal in that country.

The hypothesis that Kawasaki disease is related to a bacterial superantigenic toxin has been suggested because of the reported selective expansion of Vß2 and Vß8 T-cell receptor families, but this theory remains controversial.37–40 A recent prospective multicenter study failed to show a significant difference in the prevalence of toxin-producing strains between patients with Kawasaki disease and febrile controls.41 Recent investigations support an alternative hypothesis: The immune response in Kawasaki disease is oligoclonal (antigen driven, ie, similar to a response to a conventional antigen) rather than polyclonal (as found typically in superantigen-driven responses), and immunoglobulin A (IgA) plasma cells play a central role.42–44

It also is possible that Kawasaki disease results from an immunologic response that is triggered by any of several different microbial agents. Support for this hypothesis includes documented infection by different microorganisms in different individual cases, failure to detect a single microbiological or environmental agent after almost 3 decades of study, and analogies to other syndromes caused by multiple agents (eg, aseptic meningitis). This hypothesis is somewhat difficult to reconcile with the distinctive clinical/laboratory picture of Kawasaki disease and with its epidemiological features, however.

As you can see even the advanced medical diagnosis is problematic and it is in all likelyhood possible it is a form of allergic reaction to the chemicals in the average American home, so their hypothesis is as valid as the other hypotheses that are hanging around when in truth the doctors know sweet blow all.

Sure - so we suspect what might have caused it - however does that warrant scientology preachers turning their flock of minions away from modern medicine and towards "hippie-only" techniques? No IMO. The healers themselves might suggest that the "patient" consult with a doctor, but when you've paid as exorbitant an amount of money to reach the required level of scientologist, you're more than likely going to selfishly obey your handler and shun them entirely. IMO, if the Travoltas denied their kid access to modern medicine in favour of their BS hippie techniques, then they're guilty of killing their own child. Sounds insensitive, but he made his own bed, now he must lie in it...

Any parent losing a child is sad, but if it had been some other teenager dying from a drug overdose (what do you want to bet it was...) would it make world news? No. When kids in your own city die do you get all sad and make a thread about it? No - so why this? Sorry if I sound cynical but is it supposed to be more tragic that it was a celebrity's kid?

The bloody idiot was treating his son with scientology and you feel sorry for him? The only one you should feel sorry for is the kid, for having such a moron for a father.

Hence the thread - did you read all the posts yet?

I wouldn't have posted it if it wasn't for the scientology angle...

Sadly, I think that means that the Ministry of Health still tolerates quacks.

Where's your Xenu know Travolta?

Kawasaki disease = autism in Jett Travolta's case. They just don't want to admit it, because they don't have a treatment for it in $cientology
Hopefully he'll be charged with neglect, although I know it won't happen.

Reminds me of the time Tom Cruise told Brooke Shields that $cientology can cure post natal depression
