Cape Town - Former South African heavyweight boxer Johnny du Plooy has died. He was 48.
In his 33-fight career he compiled an overall record of 27 wins, 5 losses, and 1 draw, including 22 wins by knock out.
All losses were stoppage losses to well-known opponents - Mike Weaver, Renaldo Snipes, Francesco Damiani, Pierre Coetzer, Corrie Sanders.
Du Plooy battled a heart condition last year, during which he was hospitalised for eight days and lost 21kg in the process. His exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
