Just want to hear your opinions about Joomla.....I find it frustratingly difficult to use.

Is it just me, or do you find it difficult to use as well?

Agree. Have been trying to redevelop our NPO site using Joomla and am about to throw in the towel.

We specialize in Joomla-based website development and also offer FREE website development for NPO's...
Have a look at our website, www.gsite.co.za, check out our portfolio and what we offer. Perhaps we could help you out?

I have used Joomla for a while and I now find it relatively easy. What are you battling with?

Guess it's the whole idea of Sections, Categories and Articles that I must get used to.....and the fact that I'm brain-dead doesn't help either. :(

it is complicated to use but it is very powerful. if you have a look at one of our sites. www.4gaming.co.za you will see that is designed in Joomla and it is a social site
There is no denying that it is a powerful open source system. This is what led us to looking at redeveloping our site using it, but it is complicated for the non-developer.

Thanks RVFmal! Was thinking I'm losing it, but glad it's not just me. :)
We should form a support group :-)

Given enough time i am sure we could all become proficient at working with it, but for first time developers and those who will not make use of developing with it on a regular basis, it is rather daunting (especially when time is limited).

That is rather awesome of you guys. Will go and check out your portfolio. Will PM you our current site and you can see for yourself why we are looking to redevelop ;-)

I have worked with the system since the day of Mambo and I find it pretty straight forward. I more .Net, but I have created a couple of modules for Joomla as well as templates. I have been moving sites from version 1.0 to 1.5, because i am bit an@l about my html and it kept adding tables to my theme.

you can PM me if you need some assistance :)

Yeah been int he same boat... Joomla was a bit hard to get right and I don't like that it used tables for everything

I've been helping my father with his Joomla website which was recently created for him and I must say, the WYSIWYG editor is a b*tch to use!!!! Nothing comes out as it is supposed to and there are so many formatting errors and workarounds you have to use just to post an article on your page. Not knowing much PHP/HTML myself, it is difficult for me to do anything substantial and I don't know who to blame: The guys who designed it or the actual CMS.

Joomla is definitely testing my patience, but I know I will master it eventually if I make the effort/ use regularly. Have seen some inspiring Joomla sites out there...
