Joomla for beginners...

I'm slowly starting to like Joomla! and realize it has huge benefits for our company going forward.

For instance, I can give the marketing people a seperate login and they can update their own marketing material, competitions, etc. without me having to constantly update it. And we all know what a challenge it is to keep marketing people happy. Happy now with the sections > categories > articles. Understand it.

Still struggling with the menu manager a bit, but will figure it out. Can I embed fonts in Joomla somewhere that will show visitors to my site the pages as I designed it? Especially for people that haven't downloaded MS Core Fonts for their Linux distros.

There are several ways to display fonts to a user they haven't installed on their OS, and Google have managed to assemble a truly horrendous bunch of them if you're willing to use them. Joomla is server-side, just serving up (bad) HTML.

If it's that important to the design I would just use:

HTML:
<h1 id="blah">Heading 1</h1>

The CSS...
HTML:
#blah{
width:;
height:;
background:;
text-indent:-999em
}_

I have a free CMS system at www.easycmslite.com. Its a brand new product, so at present there is only one design (template). However, if you look at the templates in progress link you'll see some of the templates we are busy with at present (there are also another 3 coming from a professional design company, just waiting for them).

This CMS is easy to use. Its designed for website owners who are not technical and who don't have time to learn it, they have businesses to run. There is also a dedicated demo server so you can try the thing out on our servers first...

Think I'm onto something here (create your own Joomla templates with a really easy-to-use editor)....has anyone tried Artistreer 2?

Web site and trial download here : http://www.artisteer.com/

Anyone used it?

I think Artisteer 2 might just be the tool that I was looking for.....gotta pay for it, $129.95 for the full version, but the time this will save me is priceless.

I use it as well since my CSS isn't the best. It's a fantastic program!

Agreed about not giving in the towel. I use Joomla for a few different sites (1.6 is coming out soon) and love it. In the beginning it is difficult to grasp, but with some patience you'll get there.

Used Joomla in the past, but have moved over to Drupal. Drupal is a steeper learning curve, but you can do so much more. Also the nice things about Drupal, is the support base is good and most if not all the modules are free and update on a regular basis. Using modules like Views, Display Suite and CCK you can build quite a complex site in no time at all. Anyway, thats my 2 cents worth. Coming from a Joomla background, I can see the benefit in moving over to Drupal.

Its worth it in the long run. I use it to design a basic layout and then hack the css code to get exactly what i want. Best $129.95 i have ever spent.
