I have created a website using Joomla 2.5. Due to the nature of the website, I have also implemented DocMan (http://www.joomlatools.eu/products/docman).

Now, I have been told that uploads made with DocMan e.g. PDF have to be fully searchable.

I found two plug-ins, PDF Indexer (http://joomla.natemaxfield.com/) & JiFile (http://www.isapp.it/en/jifile-home.html).

I have spoken to the developer & PDF Indexer is no longer in development & doesn't support Joomla 2.5.

JiFile is actually much better because is indexes many other file formats other than PDF. It works really well, the only problem, is the integration between DocMan & JiFile doesn't work. When JiFile creates the index, it points to the DocMan directory. DocMan has excellent security features & doesn't allow direct access to the document directory.

So, while the indexing works brilliantly, the problem is that JiFile's links which it produces are useless.

Both DocMan & JiFile authors have indicated that it isn't their problem, which is okay, but it doesn't solve my problem.

Just as a side note, it appears that JiFile uses PDF2TXT to perform the PDF indexing.

I can't be the only person on the planet that wants to implement a secure document platform using Joomla with document indexing.

Does anyone have advice?!?

Any help would be much appreciated!?!

The thing is Joomla 2.5 is still very new, I know of developers developing 1.7 apps now

For sites like above Joomla 1.5 or 1.7 would of been a safe bet although 1.7 and 2.5 back end looks much better, 1.5 is still the most stable for me personally

I would reconsider the Joomla version if I was you, there is reason when download Joomla they only give you 1.5 and 2.5 as options. 1.5 in Custom Module environment is the strongest
