Auckland - Equipment worth R60 000 was stolen from two South African photographers in Auckland, New Zealand, reported The Star on Wednesday.

Christiaan Kotze and Barry Aldworth's items were taken after South Africa's match against Samoa at the North Harbour stadium on Saturday.

The pair's hired car was broken into near a drop-off point for the media.

"We were told it was safe to park there," said Aldworth.

Two computers, photographic equipment, money, clothes and a tent were stolen.

Last week, SuperSport journalists Brenden Nel and Gavin Rich had their car broken into at a parking lot at a hotel in Auckland. An ipod was stolen.

Not safe anywhere it seems.

How dare you post that crime happens in other countries? Don't you know that only tourists to SA are targeted when there are major events held here? :D

Wish the media would report like this whenever someone is robbed in SA as well, but then printing is expensive ...

LOL. Exactly. Some comments on IOL makes me cringe when I read it, like those fools insinuating that all ex-pats now living in NZ have not moved to a safer place at all. Bah.

It`s to be expected though.....we have exported so many south africans to NZ there is bound to be a few criminals among them ;)

Jk though :)

5 years ago my sister moved to Australia when I moved to South Africa, she`s been robbed and car broken into 3 times, I have yet to have as much as R2 stolen from me.....The grass is not always that much greener...

I think people leave to Aus because their crime is a lot less likely to be violent.
I'd much rather have the chance of someone stealing a few of my things vs having my family beaten, raped, stabbed, drowned, burned, tortured etc etc etc for a R2.00 coin which is essentially what it is coming down to.

Jip. We all know crime is everywhere. The amount of violence that goes with ours is the problem.

I l( think most people have ) have friends in Aus ( His SA Company sent him ) And they has told me that most people ( just like here )have been robbed there, but nobody has been raped killed burned and tortured in the process. They also have less security. Imagine the free for all if we did not have gates, fences, dogs ( their dogs are not allowed to bark), alarms, ADT and sector policing.

I think the people that has an issue with people leavint has penis envy.

That's quite a substantial number given the country only has 10% of our population :D

Agreed though that the violence of the crime is what seperates us, we are no longer at the top of the list though with regards to murder, we just need to cut the willies off men who rape.

We are not at the top of the list with regards to murder because the countries who are beating us are the ones who have been in civil war for the last 10-100 years, participate in open genocide and freely steal little children to use as warriors. The way the racialised murdering is going on in this country we will be up there with them in no time. I had hoped at one time that the country was on the up and up but unfortunately the country is being run into the ground - no one really cares as long as they have a fat wallet and can afford security. It's sad but it seems to be the same mentality across the board of African leadership and the African people themselves.

Add Manslaughter to Murder stats (dead is dead right?) and you're looking at 25k+ a year. More than the world's warzones.

Which countries are those?

I know when I discuss this with ppl it always comes down to a race issue.

The fact of the matter is many white civilisations have broken away from tribal/ubuntu mentality decades/centuries ago depending on region where as most of Africa is still stuck in this mentality. With this mentality comes the idea that it is alright to act in such a violent manner. Of course this doesn't apply to every single African person but it's hard to break away from such stereotypical behaviour when such a large amount of people from an ethnic group do infact behave in such a manner.

It's also hard to ignore that over the past 100 years European countries have created wonderful new technologies and made leaps and bounds in advancement while the African continent still struggles to get past fire and the wheel. At the end of the day I'd be very surprised if Bongani down the road sent a rocket into space.

Thanks for highlighting the calibre of sites you visit, now could you answer my question?

43 per day @ 10% = 4.3 per day X 365 = 1569.5 per annum

1569 vs 34........

Still puts NZ at a more dangerous place to live than Czech Republic and Chile suprisingly enough. I know it's no where near as bad as here but you make out like the place has no crime.

That might be true if it was not for the other more important numbers/facts....

How many of those murders get solved vs local open cases.

Most of the murders in NZ was based on people knowing the victims as well, ie: lover or friend, making those murders more a crime of passion vs ours.

I never said it had no crime.

It has low violent crime.
