Joyride turns into horror experience

I am not from South Africa but I have been warned a few times: When driving around in South Africa make sure where you stop next to the road! Shanty towns are a big NO NO! Same goes for any place which is frequented by 'disadvantaged' people. They will come to you but don't assume they come to help you! More often than not they come to help themselves. In Africa life is cheap! Jungle law applies. I am so scared that when visiting SA, the vehicle will break down in the 'wrong' place. And don't assume daylight will scare them away! I have read about stories when 'the locals' purposefully block the road with rocks and other objects to force you to stop. Stories like this scare me big time :(

I travel Africa extensively for work. Sierra Leone. Zambia. Ghana. Nigeria. DRC. Burkina Faso. I ALWAYS feel safer in those countries than I do anywhere in SA.

Deep frying can do that.

I'm still at lost, what happened ie what where the other people busy with the "initiates" what does that entail

We were doing a MTB race the other evening. Announcer said there were initiates and it was agreed that we leave them alone, they leave us alone.

I was also curious afterwards what initiation entails.
