I would say yes its R556 better.

1. its 20-25% faster (even more at Higher resolutions)
2. its DX10.1 that has some good performance advantages in games that support it.

Erm, not sure that's too accurate. Straight out of the box the GTX260 SC is pretty much on par with the 4890. Also depending which 4890 you get, the Sapphire Toxic is ****ing quick in comparrison to the lower clocked 4890's but is also over 3k.

Then why are all the internet comparisons 4890 vs GTX275 and 4870 vs GTX260.

All of them conclude pretty much that its a dead heat on both classes of product.

I got the GTX275 simply because my supplier did not have the 4890 in stock. Would be happy with either one. The GTX275 would also be worth the R550.

of the GTX260 and 4870 - get the cheaper one

of the GTX275 and 4890 - get the cheaper one.
