Jquery still relevent?

Pure js is a pain in the ass, especially when it comes to compatibility. Jquery is a nice abstraction layer. If you've also "gone jquery" by pulling it in then there wouldn't be much point in not using it.

I used to hate Javascript like you, but jQuery made me love it. The abundance of js frameworks and libraries is astonishing. You are pretty much left behind if you don't join the crowd tbh.

I'm still learning js. Long way to go.
The only part of JavaScript one might be "left behind" in is nodejs. The rest is pretty easy to pickup when you need it. JS is hardly rocket science.

Firat of all JQuery isn't a framework - it is just a nice wrapper around the DOM and certainly has its uses.

My bad. Meant library :o

JavaScript is still an ugly clunky thing with no good tools though.

At the risk of derailing this thread into a holy war, JS is up there with PHP as one of the uglier languages (and I'll thrown in GO as a bonus)

Nodejs isn't that bad tbh

Agreed. Especially If you start with nodejs as a first language with not much prior knowledge. If like me you're used to having js on the frontend only then it may seem strange concept to have it run on the server side.

It took me a while to get on the node bandwagon but I am quite liking it though.

Eloquent Javascript. Learn Javascript and then pick a node stack. Meteor, Ember MEAN etc
