Judgment Day for Johannesburg Cop

A Johannesburg police officer accused of shooting a fleeing and handcuffed suspect will hear his fate on Wednesday when judgment is handed down in the Palm Ridge High Court, the IPID said.

Sergeant Raymond le Roux allegedly shot a handcuffed man running from a police vehicle last February, Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesman Moses Dlamini said in a statement.

Le Roux had been called to a club in Boksburg North and arrested Rian Ramdin after he was found in possession of drugs. A handcuffed Ramdin, aged 29, then tried to run away.

"The suspect shot and killed Ramdin after he allegedly ignored warning shots," Dlamini said.

At the time of Ramdin's death in February 2012, his family told Beeld newspaper they had begun to search for him when he did not return home.

"He always had his driver's licence with him. The police knew who he was but they made no effort to inform his family of the circumstances surrounding his death," his sister, Melody Perumal, told the newspaper at the time.

I hate drugs and drug dealers but the above just stinks of guilt and he should be punished and never be allowed to be in a position of any power again.
