Has anyone tried this fad? Well I guess I can't really call it a fad as it appears to have been going on for a long time with substantial evidence of success. If anyone wants to know what this is about watch "Fat, Sick and nearly Dead" (Part 1 and 2) documentary movies. You basically eat only fruit and veg, and you do so by juicing and drinking it for a significant period. Thereafter you may eat normally except you avoid processed foods and rebalance your micro/macro nutrient intake so that fruits and veg form the major part of your diet, which is supposedly the way nature intended.

They record significant weight loss and health benefits. And for those not doing it for the weight loss simply an improved standard of living and increase energy etc... Though this does not seem as popular in South Africa as the rest of the world.

Who if anyone has had success with this? And also for those like me who don't wish to lose weight but still maintain a healthy lifestyle, if not put on some muscle in the gym, in what way can I incorporate this diet?

I watched to documentary, I can't go without food. I'll have juice if it tastes good. Those green juices taste like grass.

I very much doubt fresh fruit and veg formed a big part of or our ancestors diets when they were still busy running away from lions all the way upt to Eurasia or wherever they landed up :p

Just kidding :D

Absolutely no scientific evidence out there that proves detoxing works. Regardless of method. Your body will naturally detoxify itself when need be through normal food choices. If this was not truth, we would be dead due to chemical build ups. Just think about logically.

I have seen the documentary, and was well done on both parts, especially the truck driver. However, they both lost weight purely from the natural food choices and not the rubbish that is available prepackaged. This method works in all "diets" (Keto, LCHF, Banting, etc etc)You are cutting out rubbish, and with it a caloric deficit. It will work.

Best start juicing pieces of steak for muscle growth :)

Yes yes, there is protein in plants and whatnot, but it is beyond a mission to get the amount needed. Stick with all food groups. Get your carbs from healthy choices, even if you want to exclude grains, get them from sweet potatos, bananas etc. But just eat a balanced diet and your health with be 100%.

I have heard this before also. Was some kind of medical talk show or something and basically the medical experts said, detoxing is a farce. Our livers and kidneys are masters at detoxing our bodies. That is what they are therefore afterall. Just stop eating nasty stuff or things that contain contaminants and your liver and kidneys will do what they were designed to.

Try to get the best veggies and meat you can afford. Try to go for free range but hormone and antibiotic free meat should be your priority. Eat a balanced diet, drink water and exercise. There aren't any guarantees in life and people who juice still get cancer. Try to live a healthy lifestyle and take it a step at a time.

I generally eat lots of carbs and animal products but very little fruit and veg. Aside from a caffeine addiction I don't feel unhealthy.

I wonder if I'd see any effect bumping up the fruit and veg ratio into the 40-60% range of my diet? I'd like to try. Currently I'd guess it is around 15% at most. Otherwise meals consist of rice and meat, or pasta and meat, or eggs and bacon and so on.

If its made in a factory avoid it, if its made by mother nature eat it but in moderation.

Did this for 12 days just consuming juice. Stuck to just the "mean green juice" recipe. First 3 days was hard, getting over the only drinking juice part and you get head fog (hard to describe, only last a day or so.) then after that it was easy to carry on. Around day 8-10 I found there was a huge boost in energy and mentally firing on all cylinders. The only down side is it take a while to prepare every day, you get used to the prep and buying in 3 day stints of veg and fruit helps. I can't see myself doing it any longer than 15 days as your weight loss becomes a bit rapid.

I'm on it and loosing 3KG's a week. Takes a lot of perseverance to get into it. Peel ur veg and fruit tastes much better and smoother. If you have to chew, try a salad with the ingredients you use to juice, now and then.

How many weeks on you on Cameron? Also, do you know how many KG's you need to lose? Interested to know, because if you need to drop like 50Kg's then the 3Kg's a week is a bit better than average. If it's below that, then it's very impressive. This whole talk of 1kg a week weight loss being the upper end of healthy is rubbish. :) So I am all for 3kg's a week if you have a lot to lose.

Everybody reports this huge energy boost, which seems by and large ignored otherwise, and that intrigues me as well.

I am on my 3rd week only need to lose like 20kg. Too much pepsi in the past :). Listen to your body and don't force it if you feel funny. I also eat all bran and banana with 1 teaspoon of sugar if I'm really hungry now and then.

That's awesome. Just remember, you will add a large amount back though due to glycogen storage and the like. But wont be fat.

But well done. Not sure if I could ever handle just juice. Wish I could though. Makes eting throughout the day quick and painless.

I've done this before, but it was the Dr Sandra Cabot version. I did the juicing part right after her liver cleanse diet which lasts 8 weeks. My only complaint was that the prep work was too much. I spent most of my evenings preparing the juice and food for the next day. The food and juice combinations were delicious though.

Felt great and full of energy and didn't wake up tired anymore.
