hey.. just come back from UK, had 16Mb/s with bulldog, what a bliss!
now had telkom line, and oh my *&^&^%#&^%#&#*&#, eventualy told them where to push that pair of little copper wire!

any1 ibursting in Riverglades? bought omni, but still only -91dB avg, picking up strongest from NR22, Constantia Kloof. any1 else picking up stronger signal? from where though... i reckon me gonna cut off some of these donnerse tall lightning protectors.. seems to be in my way

careltjie, welcome to the forums.

Where exactly is Riverglades? With a few pointers as to where it is, the guys might be able to assist a bit better.

Cheers

here i am!

satnav co:
26° 1'47.46"S
27°58'52.39"E

Riverlades borders on fourways, right next to witkoppen. according to iburst almost no signal, but i reckon (excluding form cutting down the GROOT lightning poles) i should get a near perfect signal. my place has a loft, i have almost line of site with Monte (i heard they have a new tower). were there's a will (which i have LOADS), there must be a way :)

/me scrambles to get into Google Earth ... nah :p

are you sure you are connected to Constantia Kloof? Can be that it gives the strongest signal, but connected to another tower?

Hey, I am in the Riverglades Estate. I get about a -80 avg signal. PM me with details of where exactly you are situated.

I'm connecting to the same tower, but I think I may be on the other side of the complex. I'm across from the clubhouse, in one of the top apartments.

sparky, u have a metal saw? reckon cutting some of these poles could help.. maybe i can use it as part of my antenna:D

Yeah, these friggin things are everywhere... lol... could probably pick up any tower we like if we had to connect them all together :D

hey guys, still getting 91db,but at least getting 600+ kb/s in the evenings, think i'll hold off on cutting the lightining poles down for now..

wanna ask something, thought i'd ask here before posting other places.

by March 2007, telkom has make some changes, enforced by ICASA. The main one is that local bandwidth is not allowed to be capped at all. this obviously involves the ISP's as well, but at least we getting somewhere:)

now this would obviously force (via competition, or by ICASA) iburst and sentech to do the same. u guys reckon there is enough interest in starting a local proxy, and users connect via that instead of international. then they would have no caps. We would obviously have to charge for it, but sure i can convince ppl at my company to do it close to cost (what we pay for it).

We have our own 4Mb/s ipc links to the UK, and 1.5Mb/s backup across ATM via IS.

I think there's already a company doing this, but hey, the more ppl doing this, the cheaper it (should) get.

as soon as the local caps are gone, I can implement this within a day, and upgrade in bandwidth would take 1 week(telkom) and 2 days via IS. our company has serious SLA's with both of them.

use it, dont use it, just a thought... (i luved that uno add :) )

iBurst overlay on Google Earth

Hi careltjie

I see you live just around the corner from me, I am in Craigavon. I did a bit of a tower search (drove around) and found some of the towers in the area, so I plotted it all in Google Earth. See http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/710646/an/0/page/0#710646 for the towers I have found and the overlays of the coverage.

The coverage images are from the iBurst website in their new towers section, and where taken from PDF documents.

If you are able to find the Kya Sands antenna, post the coordinates here as I have looked for it but cannot find it.

Cheers D

I'm still hovering around -80db, and I'm getting the full 1Mbps (or as close as is possible) so doesn't look like it is an over subscribed tower. Maybe you can try and get an antenna mounted?
