I assume the motherboard needs to support the higher transfer speed, but many motherboards don't actually say the transfer.

What if I set it at 3GB/sec and install if it doesn't support the higher transfer?

Does the motherboard limit to 1.5GB/sec? If so, why even have a setting then?

Most recent board supports SATA2(3.0gb/sec) vs SATA(1.5....)

And besides.. u not gonna notice a difference between the 2 since no hdd can sustain those speeds...

Oh and a SATA2 drive will work perfectly fine on a SATA only board

Yes you can remove, but the motherboard has to support it, and most recent ones do.

Then if it doesn't support it, get a jumper lol.

The reason for setting it on 1.5GB/sec (SATA150), is for those people that complain that their hard drive doesn't work and return them lol, and just because the motherboard doesn't support 3GB/sec (SATA300) I presume.

My old pc only supported SATA1.5 but a SATA2 drive worked fine in it even with the jumper config set to 3Gbps

The bios? on some mobos don't see a SATA2 (3GB/s) HDD without the jumper present. Or at least I had such a problem a whileback. Other mobos don't seem to mind. Don't have an explanation for the situation.

Think its all got to do with luck
